Data from General Statistics Office shows that the number of international visitor arrivals to Vietnam in August 2024 was 1.43 million, up 24.5% over the previous month and 17.7% over the same period last year. In Jan – Aug 2024, the total was nearly 11.4 million, a 45.8% rise compared to the same period last year and 1.0% higher than 2019.
Taiwan (China), US, Japan, Australia, Malaysia, India,Cambodia, Thailand also recorded in top ten source tourism markets of Vietnam.
South Korea and China contributed nearly half of the total number of international visitor arrivals to Vietnam. Of which, South Korea continues to be the top source market of Vietnam with more than 3 million arrivals (accounting for 26.4%). China ranks second, over 2.4 million arrivals (contributing 21.4%).
GSO reported a robust increase in international tourist arrivals on the first 8 months of 2024, surpassing 45.8% to the same period last year. Most markets recorded growth, including major markets from Northeast Asia: China (+157.7%), South Korea (+32.4%), Japan (+32.0%), Taiwan (+70.6%).
Notably, the number of international visitors to Vietnam in August 2024 increased by 24% to previous month. This result has important contributions from the growth of major markets such as Japan (+81.1%), Korea (+36.2%), China (+23.2%); in Europe, the UK (+35.1%), France (+54.9%), Russia (+36.3%), Spain (171.7%), Italy (289.1%).
The growth of the Korean tourist market is the result of the two countries upgrading their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and deepening cooperation between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea. To create new momentum for tourism cooperation between the two sides, in July 2024, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) and the Korea Tourism Organization signed a MoU on cooperation in promoting Vietnam – Korea tourism for the period 2025 – 2026.
The Indian market has also been growing steadily, reflecting the great potential of this market. Recently, 4,500 MICE tourists from Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited – India’s largest pharmaceutical came to Vietnam, showing that there is still a lot of room to increase the number ofIndian tourists in the near future.
The potential Australian market has grown positively thanks to the tourism promotion and cooperation activities between VNAT, Vietnamese localities and businesses with Australian partners in recent times. From September 9 to 17, 2024, VNAT will organize tourism roadshow in Australia and New Zealand.
European markets continued to grow strongly in the first 8 months of the year (+42.7%). Most markets grew positively, including major markets such as the UK (+22.0%), France (+30.1%), Germany (+25.6%), Russia (+80.4%). The continuous growth of European markets shows the effectiveness of open visa policies as well as a series of vibrant promotion and advertising campaigns by VNAT and localities and businesses in key markets such as France, Germany, Italy and Russia.
